Barcelona World Race

Barcelona World Race is a sailing race around the world without scales in a boat for 2 people celebrated every four years. The first edition was in 2007/2008 and the second stared on December 31st 2010 at 13.00 a.m. in front of the W Hotel in the port of Barcelona. The third edition will be celebrated in 2014. It is forbidden to help the crew during the race.

Its beginning and end are in Barcelona. The race arrives to Good Hope, Leeuwin and Horn and the Cook Strait.

The race covers 25,000 nautical miles (46,300 km) on the great circle, the shortest path on the surface of the Earth. The competition lasts approximately 3 months.


First edition.

At 13:00, in November 11th 2007, the first edition of the Barcelona World Race began, consisting of nine boats and 18 sailors from seven countries: France (9), Spain (4), United Kingdom (1), Australia (1), United States (1), Ireland (1) and Switzerland (1).

The second edition began in Barcelona in December 31st 2010, with an estimated duration of 90 days. In the southern hemisphere, there are three security doors to prevent ships from entering dangerous areas due to the existence of floating ice.
